ADU Concludes International Conference on Advancing Sustainable Futures

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) concluded the ‘International Conference on Advancing Sustainable Futures 2023’ at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Dubai Palm Jumeirah. The event was organized in collaboration with several international organizations, including the World Health Organization, the International Society of Environmental Geotechnology, UN Women, and others.

The conference aimed to provide a platform for researchers and subject matter experts to discuss challenges and solutions in the field of sustainability. It was attended by 600 key national and international academics and research experts from 70 countries, including the UK, USA, Italy, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Spain, Indonesia, and ADU’s undergraduate and postgraduate students.

During the conference, the UI GreenMetric Rankings 2023 announced the best universities in the field of sustainability, where ADU was ranked 359th globally. The winners of the top 15 research papers in five tracks were also announced, and three Doctor of Business Administration students were awarded the Best Paper Award.

ADU signed five Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with seven prestigious international partners and launched the Abu Dhabi University Research Institute for Sustainable Futures. The institute will focus on research and development in the field of sustainability.

The conference hosted two additional sessions: ‘Education for Sustainable Development: What, Why, and How’ and ‘Need for Accelerating Transformative Change in Cities and Communities: The Crucial Role Played by Universities.’

Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of ADU, presented awards to the winners alongside Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, Chairperson of UI GreenMetric World, and H.E. Husin Bagis, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the UAE.

ADU also hosted the Adam Smith 300 Year Celebrations University of Glasgow event in collaboration with ADU’s College of Business.

The conference was a significant step towards a more sustainable future for generations to come, aligning with ADU’s commitment to exchange knowledge and expertise with leaders in the academic field.
